Xavier University is planning a round of job cuts to deal with a budget deficit, school President Michael Graham wrote in a letter to stakeholders, the Cincinnati Business Courier reports.
Graham said the layoffs will save $800,000 in the coming year, the paper reported, part of $4 million in planned cuts to balance the university?s budget.
?This is a new process for us,? he wrote. ?Unlike most universities and other businesses, we have managed to avoid such personnel actions. But the time has come to make important but difficult choices, and I intend to do so in a way that respects Xavier?s values and mission as well as our students, faculty and staff.?
The extent of the layoffs will be announced later this month, the paper said.
